StreetSquash Community Center

The StreetSquash Center is a mixed-use residential and community service property in Harlem, housing an after-school youth facility that combines academic tutoring with squash instruction.

The project encompassed a complete interior build-out including a lobby, storefront, library, ADA-access elevator, eight full-size squash courts, offices, classrooms and new sprinkler, fire alarm, air conditioning, heating and plumbing systems.

The space features a striking two-story, custom-designed staircase with self-supporting structural glass and steel elements. Other interior elements and finishes include 10 x 10-foot high glass wall panels, maple wood flooring in the courts, soundproof wall panels between the courts and ECP sharin stone flooring.

Mc Gowan performed the work while the base building was still under construction, creating complexities with logistics and scheduling that were addressed by utilizing a storefront window opening and a boom for deliveries into the site.
