Transit Wireless Central Data Center

Transit Wireless retained Mc Gowan as General Contractor to construct Phases I & II for their Central Hub Data Center providing cellular, public Wi-Fi and public safety connectivity to underground stations within the New York City subway system.

Work included a new 800-amp bus duct riser with control and communications wiring as well as fuel piping & risers enclosed in masonry along the elevator shaft from the cellar to the roof. The building was fully occupied adding complexities that required careful planning for the proposed construction through the core of the building. An emergency generator positioned on the building's roof was hoisted into place for backup power and a 400-gallon fuel tank was installed in the cellar.

The project also included installation of HVAC systems on the twelfth floor, automatic transfer switches, new electrical service including power distribution units, a ladder rack system, fire alarm, sprinkler and security systems.  Finishes included new flooring, ceilings, walls and painting throughout. New bathrooms and other miscellaneous adjustments on each floor were made to accommodate the new risers.

The Mc Gowan team successfully completed the project on an accelerated schedule.
