Walmart Neighborhood Market

This 40,000 square foot Walmart Neighborhood Market in South Pasadena is the ninth partnership between Walmart Stores, Inc. and Mc Gowan in Florida.

Located within a 50-year-old shopping center, the building formerly served as a Winn-Dixie supermarket. It is the first takeover and refitting of a preexisting building shell as part of Walmart’s New Construction program.

The Mc Gowan team gutted the building while keeping the four outer walls intact and removed fifty percent of the existing concrete floor to introduce and install new refrigeration, plumbing and electrical systems. In addition to making these necessary upgrades to the building’s interior a new roof was built and mounted.

The project also included extensive sitework and development including the construction of a new loading dock/receiving structure. An extremely strict stormwater pollution protection program was implemented due to the store’s prominent location on the Boca Ciega Aquatic Preserve.

Throughout the process Mc Gowan ensured that the older building structure met and exceeded strict modern building codes.
